HSCSD - High Speed Circuit Switched Data - Tecnologia per il trasferimento dati a commutazione a circuito, evoluzione, quindi, del GSM, per offrire una maggiore velocità di connessione dati. Si pensa non verrà introdotta, preferendo gli operatori passare direttamente al GPRS. Con l'HSCSD ad aumentare di velocità è la navigazione Web, che può arrivare fino a 43.2 kbps, poiché possono essere utilizzati quattro timeslots invece che due, il che vuol dire che se ne utilizzano tre in Downlink ed uno in Uplink. Una speciale connessione 2+2 è possiible quando si devono spedire e ricevere e-mail, per poter permettere al terminale di utilizzare un tmislots in più in Uplink. Le differenze principali con il GPRS sono l'occupazione dei timeslots dall'inizio alla fine della comunicazione ed il pagamento completo per tutta la durata della comunicazione stessa, a prescindere dalla quantità di dati scaricata o inviata.
